Two universal rules: never assume "more is better" (excess bleach is corrosive and wasteful, not more effective), and mix fresh — diluted bleach loses disinfecting strength within about a day, so prepare what you'll use that shift rather than storing old dilutions.
Storage
- Cool, dark place away from sunlight and heat — light and warmth speed degradation.
- Well away from acids, ammonia, and ammonia-containing cleaners (see below).
- Tightly closed, upright, in its original or a properly labeled container — never an unlabeled jug.
- Even concentrate degrades over months; rotate stock and don't over-buy.
PPE and ventilation
